With
the opening of the New Year 2013, Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia is

REFLECTION PAPER
My idea
comes from an
incident that happened
to Jakarta not
too long ago
which is flood
that takes up
victims up to 4
people. The flood
is causes by
the dams are
no longer sufficient
to hold the
water. The water
reaches up to
2m height that
makes most of
the houses at
the rural area
are being swallowed by
the water. Some
of them even
use a raft
for transportation.
I wanted
to show how
badly is the
flood affecting the
citizens, also showing
their lifestyle especially
how bad are
the poor people
survived in Jakarta.
I wanted to make
a story about
the meaning of life
and the feel
of appreciation towards
everything you have.
It’s inspired
me to share
how though life
and a love
towards your family
members to be
responsible and learning
to let go.

TREATMENT / STORYLINE &
STORYBOARD
The rain
yet to stop.
It’s year 2013
now, but the
season seems getting
wetter and wetter.
The amount of
rain from the
last year had
yet to decrease.
The town is
flooded with million
of people in
Jakarta and the
surroundings area. Jakarta
is already well
known for having
the floods over
the years. But
it seems it has come
to the worse
on this year.
The drains are
blocked with a
large number of
trash which slow
down the flow
of water to
the sea. Thus,
the town is
flooded with 2 metre
high water enough
to swallow up
a car or
even a house,
especially the rular
area that are
lower than the
city. There are
4 victims that
caused by this
incident, two of
them are Tuti’s
mum and her
little sister. And
now the only
family member she
has is her
dad, Karman who works
as the “satay” seller.
Since the
incident, Tuti has
not become her usual
bright and cheerfull
self. She is
now becoming more
gloomy, quiet and stubborn.
Of course her
father become worried
of her. Afterall,
it is normal
to griefing after
someone you love.
But despite the
situation, Tuti is
still eagerly to go
to school. She
did not wanted
to miss a
day at the school,
even though the
flood is still
has nor receding
and she even
need to use
a raft because
the water lever
is still to
high. Knowing her
situation, her teachers
and friends put
on some simpathy
to her. Instead
of making her
feel better, she
feel more sadder
and sadder since
everyone reminds her on the
incident.
By noon,
after the school
bell rings, Tuti
come out and
saw her father
was waiting for
her to go
home together. They
had never been
this awkward before.
Silence is the
only atmosphere filling
at the time
they go back
home. Since that
day, they had
been seldomly talking
to each other.
Tuti almost everytime
spending her day
in her room
reading books. She
is more and
more developing a bad attitude
to her father
such as ignoring
him while he
is talking or
demands something luxury
for her food
knowing her father
condition and she
begin to argue with her
dad for every
little thing. But because
of his love
towards her, he
tried to fulfilling
her wishes because
he wanted her
to live hapily
and come back
to her usual
self.
One day,
her father fell
ill. It was a rainy
day. Since the incident,
Tuti always hated
rain. She cover
herself tightly hoping
that the memory will
fade away. Her
father coughing loud
enough louder than
the thunder. Something
inseide Tuti was
moves. The very uncomfortable felling
fear that her
father will leave
her. She run
to her father’s
room , hug him
and appologize to
him. Of course
her father forgive
her as he
love him very
much.
After that
day, it seems
that Tuti has
come back to
her normal cheerful
self that makes
her father glad.
She also become
more care and
love her father
more than before
and also promise
him that she
will not disappointed
her father and
make him happy.
